Worked the first 5 hours

Yesterday i started to work on a new bear.

I started off with the paper work, overworking the pattern of Phillip, i changed the head, made it slightly larger, a bit longer from the side, and widened the gusset.
Then i worked on the body a bit, shortened the neck and the front paws got a little change, made them a tiny bit more square then so round on the toe part.

I also made the arms and legs a tiny bit wider at shoulders and hips, the last time the space for the discs was very thigh.

Then i got me some lovely faux fur from my closet and cut the pieces.
What do you think, doesn’t it look just sooo cuddly already ? :D

001

I also cut the pieces for the paws and soles

003

and then i did my running stitch all around the sewing lines.
and because the fur is stretching a bit (more then i like) i tried the first time to cover head and paws with diluted clue.

Today it’s really hard and no more stretching. But when i roll it between my hands, it gets softer again, and for sure it starts to get stretchy again too …
Well i will see how it works out when it is all done.

002

I guess today i will spend all day cutting the hair from the seam allowance and tack the seam allowance from the paw pads inside.

See you again tomorrow :)

A bit more about Phillip

Finally, after 3 weeks of testing sewing trying and retrying i finished the first good movable bear …
PHILLIP !
I really like how he turned out. There are a few things i want to make better the next one, but I guess this will happen every time i make a bear :D

This little fellow can move sooo much around, i am very pleased with this body design and the possibilities it gives.

I didn’t take many pictures doing him, after all there are a few postings where i show how it all is sewn and made and done. :D

I just show you a few bits and pieces here.
the first picture is showing all the parts cut out.
the 2nd how i did the paws.

Here i show you how i sew with running stitch around the sewing line
and the last one shows all parts sewn but not yet assembled.

This time i cut all hair off the spots where the disc are.

in case you cant find the postings of the finished Phillip … here is the link:

052

yesterday and today i worked some more on feet and arms and face … here i show you what i got

first i felted on the toes then i made a little pad and attached it on the heel

can you see the hair i felted into the gap between 2 toes in the picture above ?

then i shaded them with oil paint … also shaded the minifabric …

here you can see the shaded feet, the not shaded arms… the arm is felted with darker wool

New teddy is on a good track !

the new one is far from finished, he still needs a face, and 1 paw and 1 sole needs to be worked on
and the back is not closed, just pinned.

BUT i had to have a look, and i need to show you the results so far :D

He can stand :

038039

he can sit

040041044

he can be on all 4

042048

even his bumm looks kind of ok, does seem to be a bit shifted to the side though …
needs some investigation :D

047050

and he can lay down !! :D

051

for those interested here a few steps :

i traced the sewing line with running stitch, and also the line where i want some hair to be after cutting the soles.

025032

then i cut on the hairy side, all hair on the seam allowance, right to the showing red stitches.
which means, i don’t need to pull any hair out of the sewing line after i am finished :D

and then i cut the centre free from hair too … right to about 1 or 2 mm from the sewing line

029

here i helped myself a bit and taped the hair out of the way, same as here i did with the back part too.

033

and then i prepare the pads i am sewing in there - i like to stitch the edge on so i don’t have the fiddling around when i sew them onto the fur.

027026

then i just placed them onto the shaved pieces and sew them on - don’t forget to leave 1cm open so you can stuff them a bit after turning.

sew the pad into the foot, turn the whole thing …. stuff the toes and the sole, close the gap and of course the toes and sole will be a bit sculpted too :D

034021

this teddy i also tried the first time with screw and lock (?)

which means, i couldn’t stuff the leg, (arm) close it and attach it then to the body….
i needed to partly stuff it, attach it, hold the end of the screw with one hand, and fix the locking item with the other hand. fiddly stuff …

and THEN i had to finish stuffing and sew the opening … and THIS i did not like a little bit.
so i thought, i need to fix this screw somehow, so i can close the gap before i attach the foot.
which looks like this.

035037

to hold the discs and screws in place for gluing i attached the other disk on the outside

036

and this are all the secrets i found out so far :D

thanks a lot to the more then friendly and fast help from the artists in my forum :D
it is in German, but those of you who speak German, i am sure you will like it there :)

Problems with my blog ?

is there anybody who has problems with my blog ?
I was informed by one lady, she keeps getting removed from my blog friends list.

If you also have experienced problems, could you please let me know ?
I need to find out if there is something not working right, to fix it :)
